Description
PNC-27 is an experimental peptide developed as a potential cancer treatment agent. It was originally designed to specifically kill cancer cells without affecting healthy cells. The peptide targets a specific protein, **MDM2**, which is generally elevated in many types of cancer cells. By binding to this protein, PNC-27 can form pores in the cell membrane of cancer cells, leading to their destruction via cell death (lysis).
How does PNC-27 work:
PNC-27 is designed to:
+Specifically Recognize Cancer Cells: By targeting the MDM2 protein commonly found on cancer cells, PNC-27 can detect cancer cells without affecting normal, healthy cells.
+Pore formation in the cell membrane: The peptide binds to the membrane of cancer cells and forms pores, eventually leading to the leakage of cell contents and death of the cancer cell.
+Avoid Healthy Cells: Since MDM2 protein is present at high levels on cancer cells and not healthy cells, PNC-27 primarily targets cancer cells and theoretically would not harm healthy cells.
