Description
ARA 290, also known as cibinetide, is a synthetic peptide derived from the hormone erythropoietin (EPO). Unlike EPO, which stimulates red blood cell production, ARA 290 is designed to provide anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective effects without the hematopoietic (blood cell-forming) properties of EPO.
Mechanism of action: ARA 290 specifically binds to the innate repair receptor (IRR), a receptor that is activated upon tissue damage and inflammation. By activating this receptor, ARA 290 can reduce inflammatory responses and promote tissue repair. In addition, ARA 290 has the ability to block the TRPV1 receptor, a receptor involved in pain perception and inflammation, contributing to pain relief.
Applications: ARA 290 is being investigated for a variety of medical conditions, including:
- Neuropathic pain: Studies have shown that ARA 290 can reduce symptoms of neuropathic pain, particularly in conditions such as diabetic neuropathy and sarcoidosis-associated neuropathy.
- Inflammation inhibition: Due to its ability to modulate inflammatory responses, ARA 290 is being investigated as a potential treatment for disorders.
- Tissue repair: ARA 290 has potential in promoting tissue repair after injury due to its tissue-protective properties.
